Enchaning family holiday home with mesmerising views ★★★★★

This 1960’s boathouse is a charming family holiday home. ...[See More]

We were a group celebrating birthdays for a 6 year old and 70 year old. Viper’s quay was a perfect place for a week of creating happy family memories. Crabbing off the jetty. Boat hire. Barbecue. Deck chairs in the garden. Reading Agatha Christie’s books while glancing across to her holiday Home on the opposite bank. Dogs running through the wooded waterside. The noise of the steam train travelling past. And always that incredible view of the river Dart and the bustle of little boats. Just the spot for making memories.

Staying at Vipers' Quay is pure bliss. The setting of this exquisitely designed Modernist house, amidst wooded hills, farmland and the charming village of Dittisham, a ferry ride away from Dartmouth, is wondrous. ...[See More]

Paradise on the Dart! ★★★★★

Without a doubt, the most amazing location on the River Dart! If you want tranquillity and relaxation, Vipers Quay is unbeatable. ...[See More]

My family and friends spent 2 wonderful weeks here, resulting in nothing but praise and admiration. Vipers Quay is able to offer all the requirements needed in a large family holiday home, with the added bonus of being ideal for dogs. Set in the most glorious countryside, on the banks of the river, you can quite literally be 'in your own little world', yet easily accessible to the local shop, pubs, and regular water taxi to Dartmouth. The accommodation is both clean and facilitating, with space to comfortably absorb the largest of families. Unique in every way! CF

Fantastic property in perfect location ★★★★★

Wow - we had a fantastic time. It was a childhood dream to stay at Vipers Quay - and totally exceeded my expectations. It is such a special place, and property is as fantastic inside as it looks from the outside. ...[See More]

I knew the view would be good, but that feeling of "floating on the water" when in the front room is amazing. We hired a boat and had some excellent family adventures on the River Dart. Great information provided before arrival and in the house. Weather was perfect all week - great memories and a 50th birthday I'll never forget!

A wonderful property - exciting to travel mostly by water instead of road. ★★★★★

We are a group of 8 elderly walkers, although one is now unable to join us on long walks. The house and facilities were perfect - what a treat to have such a view across the river. ...[See More]

We phoned for a ferry boat to collest us from the pontoon outside, which took us to the opposite ferry stage, a shuttle car drove us up to Greenway. The second trip was by car to Little Dartmouth where we set off for a coastal walk to Dartmouth Castle and back - about 4 miles. One of our group is an expert canoeist, who really enjoyed her trips on the river, from our jetty. We enjoyed evening meals at the Ferry Boat Inn (you can park on the small beach when the tide is out).

Best location ever! ★★★★

It's difficult to imagine a better setting than Viper's Quay - the views from the main living room are stunning. The property is very comfortable and well equipped. The grounds are fantastic and perfect for early morning crabbing and launching paddle boards. Seal spotting was another favourite pastime for the kids. A short row or a bracing walk to the village and Ferry Boat Inn. This is the second time we have stayed as a large group at Viper's Quay and would highly recommend it and hope to visit again soon.

Vipers' Quay is a Modernist house, which has been tastefully modernized and practically furnished, with a large family's needs in mind. It perfectly suits twenty first century standards. ...[See More]

The house and grounds nestle in a glorious setting on the River Dart, offering panoramic views of the river and gentle hills of the landscape. We see Agatha Christie's lovely house in the distance. Light and space abound in the house. We found it to be impeccably clean, so comfortable and obviously well maintained. Vipers' Quay has a warm spirit of place. One can imagine spending Christmas at the house, with a large Christmas tree standing proudly in the entrance hall. You will find many good books on the shelves to read, by Graham Greene or Zadie Smith or Agatha Christie, notable historians and correspondents. There is much to do in the area: visit fascinating National Trust properties, art galleries and splendid gardens, take long walks, sail, and more. It is marvelous to be able to use ferries to travel rather than one's car. The owner was very helpful and caring, always responsive. She sounds charming. Vipers' Quay is a gem.

Spacious Riverside home ★★★★★

Vipers Quay is a spacious, comfortable home perched on a wide bend on the River Dart. Large windows display the river scene, with Agatha Christie's elegant house, Greenway, visible on the opposite shore. Dittisham, the local village, is a short drive or long walk away. There were only four of us, but the house would easily accommodate a larger party - families or groups of friends. ...[See More]

The kitchen is large and well-equipped. The dining and lounge areas, surrounded by those windows and an outdoor walkway, are spacious. The bedrooms are comfortable. Everything - heating, dish and clothes washers, hot water, etc. - works perfectly. The house is immaculately clean.

Vipers Quay is particularly suited for those who want to spend much of their time enjoying the house and its immediate surroundings. You can take the ferry to Dartmouth and to Greenway, across the river. Driving anywhere means experiencing what people in Devon seem to regard as roads. I found it part of the fun, particularly with the hedgerows in bloom, but be aware that those hedgerows often allow only one car to squeak by.

Staying here is particularly pleasant because the hostess is so generous and helpful. From the first inquiry through various questions we had until we arrived, she was most responsive to our questions and needs. We also much appreciated the welcoming bottle of Chianti DOCG.

So, with a nod to those pesky roads, I can't imagine that there's a better place to stay in this particular part of the world.

Relaxing holiday with stupendous views ....... ★★★★★

A lovely relaxing family holiday in a stunning waterside setting a perfect place to sit and enjoy family meals. I last stayed in the property not long after it was completed in 1964 and although many features have been upgraded eg the new smart kitchen it is lovely that many of the modernist quirky features from the 1960s, such as the lighting are still there. ...[See More]

Excellent Property ★★★★★

The house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped but the icing on the cake is the view, just stunning. ...[See More]

Our group took advantage of the local amenities taking the small ferry from Dittisham to Dartmouth (and back) to shop and lunch, such a relaxing way to travel. The following day we visited Agatha Christie's Greenway, lovely house and grounds, popping in to the Ferry Boat Inn, Dittisham on our way back!

The terrain can be quite challenging for walking and the lanes very narrow re driving but well worth the effort. We found a small public car park in Dittisham but you will have to walk down and more importantly back up if you wish to take the ferry. Greenway is the same but the National Trust run a shuttle to and from the house and ferry if you are unable to make the walk.

We were a group of eight ladies who meet annually for a long weekend and we all voted this property in the top three we have visited over the years and will definitely return in the future.

A lovely weekend had by all.

Wow! What a fantastic property.... ★★★★★

We saw plenty of wildlife including a couple of seals! The location is very rural and very peaceful, being surrounded by farm-land and down a long drive. There are plentiful walks, including a stroll into Dittisham to a great Cafe and adjacent Pub. The house is very well equipped with five bedrooms comfortably sleeping 10 - 12 (the last room is a four berth bunk room - great for children). It's obviously a well loved family retreat and has everything required for a comfortable existence. We absolutely loved it and expect to return many times in future! This really is a 12/10 experience!

A large group of 11 adults have spent an excellent week at Vipers Quay, wining, dining and enjoying the outstanding views offered by this well located property. Comfortable and clean with good customer service from the owner.

The small village of Dittisham is a delight, ferry boats take you either across the river to Greenways, Agatha Christies' holiday home, or down river to Dartmouth (with return trips available). If you are lucky enough to catch the tide right then you can get picked up or dropped off at your own private quay alongside the house. Many interesting locations are within striking distance of here, coastal to country, houses to gardens. If you are after a more active holiday then golfing, sailing and walking are all available on the doorstep.

This was our second visit here and enjoyed every minute of it just as much as the first, I would definitely recommend this to friends and relatives.

A wonderful well equipped house ★★★★★

The house is spacious and extremely well equipped and located right on the edge of the River Dart with its own private quay. ...[See More]

Our 11 metre boat sat comfortably alongside during periods of high water allowing for easy boarding and off loading of passengers. The view from the lounge is stunning and on one particular evening we were treated to the most amazing sunset. The whole house is well equipped and everything works. The kitchen was fantastic and fitted out with quality units that stored every conceivable item you could ever need. The information provided by the owner prior to our holiday and at the house during our stay was comprehensive. There was information for all eventualities and local places of interest. Mrs Gill even offered to help us find a mooring for our boat by placing an advert at the local pub months before our arrival.

If you like sea food then you'll love the Anchor Stone Cafe at Dittisham, If you prefer to catch and cook your own then bass can be caught from the shore of the property and fresh prawns captured using a drop net from the quay. Mullet are also abundant around the shoreline. We loved this holiday and all agreed that we should go again.

A unique holiday home with lovely river access ★★★★★

The essence of this house is its location; right on the River Dart, it commands wonderful views up towards Dittisham. There is a huge picture window which makes the most of the vista, and it really does make you stop and sigh every time you come in the room. ...[See More]

The private quay allows direct access to the river via all kinds of craft, and we spent quite a bit of time fishing too.

Vipers Quay is walking distance from the village, which has very good facilities and is actually quite large. It feels like a proper community, not just a holiday location - quite a gem. We enjoyed the pubs and cafe, and appreciated the availability of hire boats and kayaks.

From here, it's a reasonable drive to many beaches and areas of interest. Dartmouth is very pleasant, less chi chi than Salcombe but good places to eat and kept spotlessly clean. We also particularly like East Portlemouth beach which is great for younger kids and has a Venus cafe nearby for coffee and pasties...

We feel you are likely to have a fantastic time at Vipers' Quay. Devon is a lovely place for a holiday, and this house is very good base for exploring the South Hams. And you will get a lift every time you come down for breakfast or an evening meal, and gaze out of the window!
